Matt & Dori Smidt
My host parents were both just 26 when I came. My host dad worked as Media Director and 'Sub' (teacher) at Palmyra, a school outside of Lincoln and my host mom was an accountant of the University of Nebraska/Lincoln.

Grace United Methodist Church*/Lincoln
My host family is methodist and is a member of the United Methodist Chruch. They are going to Grace UMC in downtown Lincoln. The congregation is not too big and the portion of youth is very small - but even though it was a great experience! I was fully integrated into the chruch and helped with the Pancakefeed, was participating in Youth Group and played the shepherd in the Christmas story!

"Jungschar" Missionsausflug
Hi Leute! - - - Hi Everybody! I just got back from the greatest experience I have probably ever done ... besides my year abroad. This story is not about my exchange year, even that my exchange student year is the biggest thing ever done. No, I just got back from Bay City/Michigan, where I stayed 7 days long in a so called Group Work Camp. I went there with my Youth Group from church and as you can think, it is something spiritual/religious! But anyway ... it was so amazing and unforgettable - that I have to tell ya that! 7 nights long we stayed at a school in Bay City/Michigan, we slept on the hard class room floors, we showered in cold water showers (at least the girls had to), and worked more than 7 hours a day (5 days long) together with people we didn't know at the beginning. But all that did not matter to us to pay for that wonderful experience and to go on the round 15 hour long drive. Because we worked together as a team, we felt together ... Actually your GOAL was to serve God, give Jesus' Message on to others and HELP PEOPLE IN NEED! We prayed together, we laughed together, we sang together, we played together and we got to know each other ... We met youth from several different states all over the USA: Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Colorado, Michigan, Wisconsin, North and South Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Georgia and others. 7 days long we lived in a 'strict' schedule (with work and worship) and during our free time we played cards, talked, wrote diary, played ball games, went sight seeing or shopping, or what ever ... For a certain amount of time we did not need the TV, the PC or video games. In the evenings we had youth worship services, they had a band playing Christian Rock music and we had a choir singing(all of them never played together and just met there, but were great). Otherwise we had different activities every day just like at usual camps and our sponsoring church surprised us with snacks and little presents every day. It was about that and it brought tears into our eyes and the eyes of the residents (the people, who opened their house for use to let us help repair their homes). Ok, I don't know, what you think know, that you read that text ... I am/was not really into religion. I am Christian and I am proud to be Christian, but I always said that I would never go to a Christian Summer Camp or anything like that. I never wanted to ... But somehow I got into that, because maybe I wanted to see another part of the USA before I leave, or because my host parents are the leaders of my Youth Group, or I don't know, if there were any other reasons ...? At least I am so proud of myself, that I've done that. It made me stronger, it gave me experience in working with tools, repairing homes, it made me stronger in my faith and it gave me the opportunity to see another place in the It was so much more, than I thought it would be and it was so much more fun that I ever would have thought a Christian Camp could be! As a special activity my Youth Group went to Ok, this is my story ...
